What are the benefits of Fish Oil? – Eliminating inflammation

Fatty Acids (Omega 3, 6, 9) cause the cells in our bodies to work better and produce more energy. When we eat SAD (Standard American Diet) foods, our fatty balance becomes supercharged for inflammation, which causes imbalance and sets the stage for disease.

Besides better nutrition, one solution is to supplement with Omega’s that help decrease inflammation. Omega 3, 9 and some types of Omega 6’s can be found in Cod Liver Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Borage Oil, and Fish Oil.

Each oil is slightly different from the next. Each is sourced differently, each provides different types of omegas, and each has different dose recommendations.

Boost your immunity and health naturally! –
Omegas are a great way to boost your health and immunity naturally. Fish & flaxseed oil are two of the most widely used supplements, both contain omega-3 fatty acids, but there are some differences between the two:

Fish vs Flax, Which is it?

Types of Fatty Acids: There are 3 main types of omega-3, ALA, EPA, & DHA. ALA can only be obtained through food, while small amounts of EPA & DHA can be made from ALA. Flaxseed oil typically contains 53% ALA, but no EPA/DHA. Whereas Fish are the main source of EPA/DHA.

Effects: ALA’s role is most important for its role in converting to EPA/DHA, while its other roles in the body are not yet clear. EPA/DHA decreases inflammation and supports healthy development and function of the brain and nervous system.

Conclusion: Because of the different amounts of available EPA/DHA in fish vs. flaxseed oil, it is not always possible to get the same therapeutic effects, depending on what condition(s) are being treated.

The best way to choose the right source of Omega-3 for you is to consider values, the condition being treated and the amount of omega-3 needed for therapy. A naturopathic physician can assist in choosing the proper Omega-3 and dosage needed for optimum results and benefits.

TIPS: For vegans & vegetarians, flax is the obvious choice, as it is sourced from a plant.
